Vans has linked with Shanghai-based designer Kim Kiroic on a collection of six sneakers that reflect the upcoming Year of the Rooster, which will be ushered in with the first day of the Chinese New Year on January 28th.
Riffing off of the concept of the rooster, an animal according to Chinese astrology that is said to be confident, honest and a great motivator, each of the shoes represent a different point in the life cycle of the bird from egg to adult.
The tone on tone Old Skool sneaker reflects the rooster’s egg phase and the Authentic Platform shoe with the fuzzy upper is meant to represent its days as a chick.
The rooster’s adult days are represented by a Slip On detailed with a bright red, yellow and blue fringe “comb,” along with a Mid Skool shoe with a red suede upper contrasted against a white vamp and black midsole, all of which speaks to the rooster’s bright plummage.
The collection also includes two Authentic Platform shoes with a woven leather, check upper.
This collection will launch in two part, first on December 16th and then on December 20th.
