Kim Kardashian has let slip some images of herself on a shoot, revealing not just blonde hair but a set of pierced nails. In a Snapchat video, Kardashian showed off her nails and said, “Khloe [Kardashian] would be so proud of me right now,” a statement reflecting Khloe’s known appreciation for a flashy set of acrylic nails. Kim, on the other hand, has stated on several occasions on Keeping Up with the Kardashians that she prefers to wear her nails natural because she finds acrylics unsanitary and unwieldy. As such, you can be certain the nails she wore in the video were temporary press-on versions and were removed by the time she left the set.
While there has been some media coverage describing Kim’s pierced nails as a new trend, as anyone who is into nail art knows, nail piercings have been around forever and a day and in recent history have seen popularity on and off among black American women for the past three decades.
In the case of Kim’s multiple piercings, we guess her nail artist was inspired by a similar set featured on Balenciaga’s fall 2017 runway, as created by Mei Kawajiri (see below).
