German r&b singer Ace Tee aka Tarin Wilda garnered some nice buzz for her December video “Bist du Down?” (English: “Are You Down?”) after Fadar made its discovery yesterday. Featuring rapper Kwam.e., the sound and vibe of the video is very much late ’90s, vintage era r&b when all girl-groups like TLC reigned supreme. And indeed part of the video’s appeal is the visual combination of laid back dance moves, heightened by street-style fashion choices, and braided hair styles.
Part of the charm for Tee’s video is also that it’s made by a German artist, adding the element of making a connection through music despite language and cultural differences and also re-experiencing the format as interpreted by someone with fresh eyes.
