Rumors have been flying all over social media about the possibility of an upcoming collaboration between Supreme and Louis Vuitton. In addition to images of a white long-sleeved top showing white on white embossed LV and Supreme box logos, there is also a screen shot from Louis Vuitton’s menswear designer, Kim Jones, who allegedly posted an image earlier today on Instagram showing a Supreme whatever smile emoji super-imposed on all-over LV print (above).
Famously, Louis Vuitton sued Supreme in 2010 when the streetwear brand used its logo without permission on a capsule including skateboard decks and t-shirts. However, times have changed and Supreme is now very much a grown up company that does everything by the letter of the law. Indeed, it now sues other brands for copying its name and box logo. As such, it wouldn’t be at all surprising if these two brands, each powerhouses in their own right, came together on a mutually beneficial project. As well, Kim Jones has already worked with Nike so it’s clear he understands the concept of collaboration and how it can benefit a brand.
Perhaps speaking to the power of talking things in to existence, Off White designer Virgil Abloh famously told GQ last year, “Supreme is my Louis Vuitton.” So if this comes to fruition, we all have Alboh to thank or blame, depending on your perspective on these two labels working together.
