Alexander Wang has always been known as a label that caters to the downtown girl and for fall the label leaned into New Yorker’s love affair with the color black through a collection for fall 2017 that was not only presented in dark light, but also included mostly black garments and accessories.
The only looks that weren’t head-to-toe black, were black and white plaid coats and slacks. The presentation reflected a more somber than usual tone for the label and yet, probably will be well received at retail, where the customer will view items individually rather than as a collective statement.
The show was preceded by an Instagram takeover by Teyana Taylor and a DJ set by producer Metro Boomin at the show, which took place at the RKO Hamilton Theater in Harlem. Kendall Jenner, Hanne Gaby Odiele, Bella Hadid, Anna Ewers and Binx Walton were among the models who walked the show.
The label is famous for it massive after parties, but this time around rather than a celebratory event, it turned the concept on its head with a “No After Party” collection of t-shirts, jean shorts and tights (already sold out) that were made available to purchase immediately following the runway presentation.
