Talented Korean designer Hyein Seo reemerged during London Fashion Week, showing a presentation produced by edgy boutique retailer Machine-A. Notably, the models wore an upcoming version of Nike’s Air VaporMax, which will hit retail in late March. The presentation was her first public one in close to three years.
Titled “Final Boss,” the collection reflected Seo’s talent for finding the unique angle and untold story. In the case of fall offerings, Seo tapped into her own background to make an authentic and modernized commentary on traditional Asian garments including Judo style kimonos and a cheongsam dress.
Seo first created a stir when she showed with VFiles in February 2014, a presentation that included a “Fear” stole that gained fame when Rihanna was spotted in it not long after during Paris Fashion Week. A graduate of Antwerp’s Royal Academy, she showed her final presentation in June 2014, a collection titled “Bad Education,” that was viewed as widely influential.
Since her Antwerp presentation, Seo has continued to create seasonal collections, but has limited their publicity to lookbooks.
