There was a lot of (sort of ridiculous) chatter about Lady Gaga bringing on surprise guests like Beyoncé and Migos for her Super Bowl 51 halftime show, but in the end she did just fine on her own. Gaga may not be the global sensation she once was, but last night she reminded everyone that her super stardom was never an accident.
Immediately preceded by her Tiffany commercial, Gaga kicked the performance off singing “God Bless America” segueing into “This Land Is Your Land,” while standing on the roof of Houston’s NRG stadium.
Mic in hand, she dove from her perch and sang “Edge of Glory” while suspended from cables (for this alone she deserves some special golden ovary award). She eventually landed on the stage and during the performance managed a total of three outfit changes with all three handled by Atelier by Versace.

Gaga tweeted that her performance was dedicated to her Monsters, and in a press statement prior to the show explained, “The only statements that’ll be making during the halftime show are the ones that I have been consistently making throughout my career. I believe in a passion for inclusion. I believe in the spirit of equality and the spirit of this country. It’s one of love and compassion and kindness. So my performance will uphold those philosophies.”

Both Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden congratulated her on her performance.
