Chanel Hollers Back At Frank Ocean With Mysterious Perfume Post

March 16, 2017. Leave a Comment

In his recently-released single “Chanel,” Frank Ocean famously used Chanel’s double C logo as a way to reference fluidity with the line, “I see both sides like Chanel.” The French luxury label responded with two Instagram posts yesterday, one of which read,”We see both sides like Frank,” while the other showed an image of the ocean sitting atop a shot of of Chanel No. 5 perfume, labeled “Ocean” and “Land” with a caption that read, “We see both sides like Frank Ocean. #YouKnowMeAndYouDont #FrankOcean #CHANEL”

Is the call out a simple sign of appreciation or is there something more at play, like a collaboration? Chanel has tapped Pharrell Williams to front its spring 2017 handbag campaign, though Ocean tends to be very elusive when it comes to working with corporations. He appeared in a Calvin Klein campaign last year, but other than that has kept paid-for brand associations at arm’s length.

Check out Ocean’s song below, as well as Chanel’s Instagram posts below.

Part of his debut collection with the retailer, the men's "giant fit" chino priced at 89.50 is 100% sold out! Relecting the popularity of the silhouette, the women's wide-leg pleated cargo is also sold out.

With wider fits and chino swinging back into popularity, we can't help but wonder what sneakers and shoes will be coming along for the ride. Any nominations?

The GOAT Serena Williams says farewell to her care The GOAT Serena Williams says farewell to her career as a professional tennis player in the September issue of American Vogue.

In the cover story, which is a must read, Williams shares some thoughts on her evolution away from tennis and says,"Believe me, I never wanted to have to choose between tennis and a family. I don’t think it’s fair. If I were a guy, I wouldn’t be writing this because I’d be out there playing and winning while my wife was doing the physical labor of expanding our family. Maybe I’d be more of a Tom Brady if I had that opportunity. Don’t get me wrong: I love being a woman, and I loved every second of being pregnant with Olympia. I was one of those annoying women who adored being pregnant and was working until the day I had to report to the hospital—although things got super complicated on the other side. And I almost did do the impossible: A lot of people don’t realize that I was two months pregnant when I won the Australian Open in 2017."

The cover editorial was styled by Gabriella Karefa-Johnson, who in 2020 became the first black woman to style a U.S. Vogue cover.

This cover was also one of the last projects hairstylist #LatishaChong worked on before she sadly passed away in July this year.

After The Cut published a story titled "Our Condolences To The Birkin" the internet got into their feelings.
