Taking a page out of Alphabet City’s grimier (and let’s face it, funner) days, Rihanna is featured on Paper magazine’s “Break the Rules” March cover, looking amazing in a punk-themed spread styled by rising talent, Farren Fucci (who famously put Rih in that Hillary t-shirt), along with Sharon Stokes.

Shot on location in an Avenue C bodega, Rihanna was shot wearing looks by 5:31 Jérôme, Dior, Faith Connexion, My Enemy by Chris Habana x Sharon Stokes, Off White, Marc Jacobs, Acne Studios, Aether 79, Marques Almeida, Christian Louboutin, Proenza Schouler, Lyn Ban among others.

This is Rihanna’s second cover for Paper, with her last appearance on the New York magazine taking place almost ten years ago in 2007.

During her SavagexFenty Nordstrom event this week, Rihanna shared her plans to attend the Met Gala this upcoming May.

The theme for the Costume Institute exhibition and Met Gala, titled, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.” took inspiration from Monica L. Miller’s book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity, published in 2009.

On the slide listen to guest curator and author Monica L. Miller talk about the historical context of the black dandy.

The exhibition will explore Black dandyism through both contemporary and historical garments and accessories from cosmopolitan hubs such as London, New York and Paris.

The Met Gala will be co-chaired by Vogue‘s Anna Wintour, actor Coleman Domingo, rapper A$AP Rocky, race car driver Lewis Hamilton and Louis Vuitton‘s menswear creative director Pharrell Williams. NBA star athlete and entrepreneur LeBron James will serve as the honorary co-chair.

In an email exchange with Romero, she expressed to us significance of Betty Boop within West Coast Latina culture. “I am a lifelong Betty Boop fan, so this partnership is super meaningful to me.I really do think of Betty as one of our OG fashion and beauty icons/influencers. There’s something intergenerational about her that makes her nostalgic, but at the same time, she’s always been ahead of her time. She has inspired so many generations of Latinas.
