Bi-coastal artist Anhia Santana, who designs under the name Distortedd, is on a roll this year, recently receiving recognition from Champs Sports, which spotlighted her work as part of the chain’s “Ill-ustrated” series featuring interviews with artists, illustrators and graphic designers moving the culture.
In the video, the Philly-born, sneakerhead revealed the process behind her art, using a Retro Jordan 1 sneaker to show the steps involved. “When I build or try to make sneaker art, I try to build off the name of the shoe. I’ll distort it and turn it into this monster type thing,” said Santana who combines sketching and use of an iPad to create her designs.
The interview follows Distortedd’s art coming out party in February, a debut show titled “Distortedd: Inspired by Bape Art Show,” that was hosted by DOM Gallery, a retail and art space in downtown Los Angeles.
The year 2017 has also been personally momentous one for Distortedd, who just before the show brought a new baby into the world with her fiancé, rapper MadeinTYO. (Congrats to you, Anhia!)
