Spring sees the return of Opening Ceremony‘s partnership with Esprit, a brand known for its minimalist lines and breezy color and print stories.
The coming season’s offerings include fun prints and lots of stripes that reflect the brand when it was at its height in the ’80s and ’90s. Modeled by Coco Gordon and Arsun Sorrenti, the lookbook was shot by Matt Jones.
Esprit’s founders are no longer with the company, but their noteworthy stories speak to the brand’s lasting impact. Esprit was founded in San Francisco in 1968 by then husband and wife, Susie and Doug Tompkins, who also launched The North Face brand four years prior.
Esprit went on to form global partnerships around the world, and in the late ’80s after they divorced, Tompkins sold his share of the business to his ex, who had remarried and changed her name to Tompkins Buell. Tompkins dedicated the rest of his life to global conservation efforts and environmental activism. Tragically, he died in a kayaking accident in Chile in 2015.
Tompkins Buell left the company, or rather was forced out in the late ’90s, and is known for her political activism and close friendship with Hillary Clinton.
