Rumors are flying that Supreme has plans to open a second location in Brooklyn, specifically in Williamsburg. According to Instagram account @supreme__hustle, the store opening will include a box logo t-shirt to commemorate the event and will be managed by Jefferson Pang, who has skated professionally and was once part of the original Zoo York skate crew. On Facebook, Pang describes his current position as director of sales for DC Shoes.
In addition to the Manhattan location, Supreme has a store in London and Paris, plus six stores in Japan. This news if true will no doubt be disappointing to people in Shanghai, Seoul and Berlin (where a local streetwear brand campaigned for a Supreme shop), places where the brand has popular support and yet not a single brick and mortar store.
While Supreme could open another overseas store, the fact that it’s based in New York makes it logistically easier to open another store in a city owner James Jebbia and his team know inside out. Certainly there’s a big enough population to support a second store, and from a customer perspective, Williamsburg’s residents are now more in line with Supreme’s target demographic than the ones who live near its Manhattan location. On top of the locals, Williamsburg attracts a ton of youthful tourists from around the globe.
As well, Williamsburg already has an established skate scene, anchored by skate shop KCDC since 2001, and there are a number of events that take place there both at outdoor and indoor spots, some of which have been sponsored by Vans and Nike.
As such, one could see how Supreme would like to escape the pressure packed Manhattan landscape and head to Williamsburg where there’s more space (enough even for a place to skate) and less scrutiny.
