Forbes 100 Highest Paid Entertainers List Includes Just 16 Women

June 12, 2017. Leave a Comment

Forbes magazine has published a list of the top 100 money-making entertainers, a list that is topped by Sean Combs who is estimated to have pulled $130 million pretax during the magazine’s 12-month scoring period.

And though Beyoncé was ranked second on the list counting $105 million in paper (coming ahead of her spouse, Jay-Z, who came in at No. 55 with $42 million), what stands out about the list is how few women are on it. Only 16 out of 100 women are on the list and among them, not one is an athlete.

As well, Sofia Vergara is the only female actress on the list either (we put Amy Schumer in the comic bucket), meanwhile, male actors include Mark Wahlberg ($68 million), Dwayne Johnson ($65 million), Adam Sandlar ($50.4 million) and Tom Cruise ($43 million).

Kim Kardashian West ($45.5 million) and Kylie Jenner ($39 million) are on the list, and as much as some may find them irritating, they’re both women who employ women and support liberal causes. Ten years ago, their spot was invariably filled by a man whose politics and hiring practices weren’t as progressive.

And that’s why having more women on this list matters. Money is not just houses, cars and bling, it’s also the ability to change and shape the world we live in.

The home boasts a hand-sewn makuti thatched roof and salt-water pool with furniture sourced from all over Africa but especially Marrakech and Cairo. Campbell is also a fan of furniture made in Senegal.

Commenting on her Kenyan home, Campbell explained, "It’s a very calming place. You don’t really want to be on the phone. You’re not trying to find a television. You just want to read and be with yourself. It’s nice to just have the silence and the crickets."

Campbell was shot by Khadija Farah and styled by Edward Ngera. The story was written by Lola Ogunnaike.
