Kanye West barber Ibn Jasper has posted preview images of a Yeezy sneaker from the Season 6 collection. Flying in the face of the high-tech, sleek look of Yeezy Boost sneakers, social media has been full of jokes roasting the shoe for its chunky and orthopedic appearance.
At the same time, the shoe has been compared to inspired by Balenciaga‘s Triple-S, as well as Adidas by Raf Simons Ozweego.
While the shoe is being described as part of Season 6, a prototype of the shoe was first shown on the Yeezy Season 5 runway presentation during New York Fashion Week in February.
West has also been spotted out and about in a version of the shoe as well. If Season 6 is shown on a runway, it would be a part of spring 2018 presentations, held in September 2017.
As for the chunky trend, it’s an interesting dynamic. While on the one hand the masses have stepped back from shoes featuring heavier uppers, a trend that’s had a negative impact on Nike‘s basketball sales, the tip-of-the pyramid customer is showing a renewed interest in the trend.
Hand in hand with the chunky sneaker trend, one has to assume denim cuts will move away from the tapered jogger silhouette to one that has a more open ankle, creating a more balanced leg silhouette.
