Los Angeles rapper Kendrick Lamar has released a Dave Meyers-directed video for “Loyalty,” a single featuring Rihanna from his well-received album Damn.
While the song’s lyrics are centered around the concept of truth, the theme of the video is quite dark with several scenes depicting violence and sharks (literally) at every turn. In the ultimate testament to faith (or a wish to thrill seek), in one scene Rihanna is showing hanging (gulp!) from a building with Lamar her only life line.
On the shady hidden message tip, note the scene in which Rihanna leans into a car and spits gum at the driver. The man is driving a Lamborghini, which just so happens to be the vehicle Chris Brown was driving the night he mercilessly beat Rihanna while she was seated in the passenger seat of his car. Also, note how she chuckles as Lamar beats the driver’s butt.
Rihanna was styled by Jahleel Weaver and Anna Trevelyan. She wears two looks, a white, side-tie evening dress and fur stole, accessorized with a crystal choker and a black, zip-front slip dress worn with white, knee-high boots.
Update: The white dress is a House of London Rydia dress and the diamond choker is by Djula, priced at $226,000 via @hausofrihanna.
Via Trevelyn, the black dress is Agent Provocateur and the coat is fromSeoul-based designer Junn J.
Lamar and crew were styled by rock star stylist Dianne Garcia. In the first scene, the woman who appears poised to stab Lamar is wearing a Laurel Dewitt chain top. In the quicksand street scenes, Lamar wears Fear of God joggers with Nike Air Max 97 Silver Bullet sneakers. His silver chains are by Marine Ali (who we just interviewed here.)
We will update with more label details as we uncover them.
