Summer 2017 is going to go down in the books as an all-time great one for Bronx rapper Cardi B. Following appearances on stage with Drake, Migos and Meek Mill over the past two months, she made a triumphant return to her home town with an appearance yesterday (August 12, 2017) at the Museum of Modern Art’s PS1 space in Manhattan.
Part of the museum’s youth-oriented Warm Up series, the event was curated in part by DJ Venus X and included performances by A$AP Ferg and Total Freedom with Ryan Trecartin.
Wearing a custom LaQuan Smith red lace dress, Cardi received a wildly enthusiastic reception from the crowd, which loudly sang along to her break out hit, “Bodak Yellow.”
Meanwhile, the song continues to do big numbers, sitting at No. 14 on Billboard’s Hot 100’s chart, the highest a female rap artist has placed since Nicki Minaj‘s 2014 single “Anaconda,” which peaked at No. 2. On Spotify’s top 50 U.S. chart, “Bodak Yellow” is sitting in the 13th spot and the song is now No. 1 on Apple Music.
