The 12th edition of Afropunk Brooklyn took place on August 26-27, 2017 with an impressive line up throughout the weekend. Saturday’s sold-out event especially shined bright as it included a dope roster of majority female performers, including Jojo Abot, Jorja Smith, Quin accompanied by Madame Ghandi, Willow Smith, Princess Nokia, Leikeli47, King, Bambii, Macy Gray, SZA, Little Simz with Solange Knowles closing the evening.
Quin’s sultry set was accompanied by drummer/activist Madame Ghandi, while Leikeli47 electrified the crowd as backed up by the Brooklyn United marching band and a surprise appearance by Miguel.
Nokia took her high energy performance to next levels when she crowd surfed and took a few minutes to reflect on love, diversity and inclusion. Smith provided a cool and powerful set and U.K. rapper Little Simz’s unique vibe and rhymes kept the vibe going.
SZA led a crowd sing-along, with the crowd cheering her every move and statement. The night closed on an equally cool note with Knowles’ all-red set where the vibes were plentiful.
