New York based feminist collective Brujas has launched its “Each One Teach One” fall 2017 collection with graphic inspiration taken from the the Mississippi Freedom Schools of the Civil Rights Movement, French philosopher Michel Foucault’s 1975 book Discipline and Punish and also the uniforms Brujas founders, Arianna Gill and Sheyla Grullon, wore attending Catholic school in Manhattan’s Lower East Side.
Blending an effortless cool skate aesthetic with workwear basics the collection is comprised of hooded sweatshirts, sweat pants, Polo shirts, and trousers and is entirely U.S. produced.
Photographed by Robin Giordani, the lookbook aptly conveys the collective’s mission to “create a new world one hoodie at a time” and of course looking dope doing it.
Brujas is defined as a freedom organization made up of skaters, musicians, community organizers, healers and hustlers. With various projects under its belt including a residency at conceptual New York art gallery Recess, talks on patriarchy at New York’s New Museum, Brujas currently is gearing up to launch an online participatory course on October 2, 2017 that will also be available for download on the organization’s new website.
