In an interview with The Breakfast Club on Friday (September 15, 2017), Cardi B naturally was asked about her relationship with Queens rapper Nicki Minaj, with show host Charlamagne asking her if it was true Minaj had asked to her to appear in a video. Cardi said that rumor wasn’t true, but did confirm (at 11:20) that she and Minaj and been “conversating,” though she wouldn’t say who called who and what the purpose of the call was.
When pressed again by their relationship later in the relationship, Cardi said she had no beef with Minaj.
Cardi was quick to change the topic, leaving plenty of room for speculation as to why she didn’t want to linger on her relationship with Minaj. It could be as simple as Cardi not wanting to say the wrong thing or perhaps the two are planning music together and she didn’t want to give away too much. (We are hoping for the latter!)
In discussing the possibility of her hit single “Bodak Yellow” going from it’s current position at No. 2 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart, Charlamagne pointed out if her song hits No. 1, it will be the first time a female rapper has achieved the top spot since Lauryn Hill with “Doo Wop (That Thing)” in 1998.
With or without hitting the No. 1 spot, “Bodak Yellow” is the first single to chart in the top ten spot since Minaj hit No. 2 with “Anaconda.”
On meeting Beyoncé and Jay-Z at the “Made in America” festival earlier this month, Cardi said they said some “beautiful stuff,” but she didn’t want to reveal exactly what they said.
Cardi also talked about her upcoming album, noting that she’s not sure it will drop in October as planned. She was also quizzed about her relationship with her beau, Offset, and experiencing New York Fashion Week, during which she attended Helmut Lang, Puma by Rihanna, and Christian Siriano. She also performed at Alexander Wang’s after party.
