Kodak Black, the man who inspired the flow on Cardi B‘s hit single “Bodak Yellow” has jumped on a remix of the song. “At first, I didn’t really like Cardi B. But then I heard that ‘Bodak Yellow.’ I like the song. I heard how she came with my lil’ flow,” Black told his fans on a recent session of Instagram live, reiterating later in the same exchange he fucks with the song.
Cardi told MTV News her song was in part inspired by the flow on Kodak Black’s single “No Flockin.” She noted, “I call it ‘Bodak Yellow’ because my name starts with a “B” and yellow because I’m a yellow bitch, I’m a yellow girl.” She also added that the video was filmed in Dubai.
In an article detailing the break out success of the song, Spotify’s global head of hip-hop Tuma Basa Basa told Billboard, “It’s an anthem, and it’s a repeatable anthem, especially for the ladies. I think people truly believe in her. I think we’re witnessing her evolution, we’re witnessing her come up, and I think her fans are deeper; they relate. They feel like if she wins, they win. I think it’s about people buying into Cardi B.”
“Bodak Yellow” is sitting at No. 2 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart, outflanked only by Tyler Swift’s “Look What You Made Me Do” single. Fans have been streaming the song non-stop in an effort to push Cardi’s single over the top. If the song makes it to the No. spot, it will be the first time since a female rapper grabs the top spot since Lauryn Hill did in 1998 with “Doo Wop (That Thing)”
Cardi also released a Spanish remix of the song, titled “Latin Trap Mix” featuring Messiah.
