VFiles last night (September 6, 2017) kicked off New York Fashion Week with Runway 9, a runway presentation held in the basement level loading dock in Brooklyn’s Barclay Center. Each year the platform taps up-and-coming designers to show a collection and this year the creatives were JunJie Yang (Antwerp, Belgium), Louis Pileggi (Chicago), INXX (Hangzhou, China-based streetwear labe/retailers) and Christian Stone (London).
The designers were mentored by renowned designer Dapper Dan and Khloe Kardashian. Attendees include Tinashe, A$AP Rocky stylist Matthew Henson, Aleali May, Joey Bada$$ and Offset (who drove onto the runway in a Lamborghini). London r&b singer Jessie J performed during the intermission.
Given Barclay Center is set up to accommodate crowds, gaining entry to the show was surprisingly messy and entailed a lot of shouted directions, long lines and waits, which included passing through metal detector security.
Complaints about entry aside, once the presentation began (an hour late), all the aggravation was forgotten. As always, VFiles curated a stellar group of talented young designers.
