Lagos-based Ajanèe Studio led by Ajani Luqman presented a head-turning runway during Lagos Fashion Week in October, with a collection anchored on craftsmanship, upcycling, and a fluid aesthetic. Established in 2021, the label is carving a lane in contemporary Nigerian fashion with a focus on asymmetrical cuts, patchwork, dying and screen printing applications.
Lagos Fashion Week included runways and presentations by 60 brands and designer who showed at the Federal Palace Hotel, in Victoria Island in mid-October.
The event was founded in 2011 by Nigerian-born Omoyemi Akerele, and since has become a cornerstone of African fashion. An attorney turned fashion executive, Akerele is also a founder of Style House Files, a creative development agency that’s bolstered Nigerian designers’ visibility on the global stage. Akerele also served on the advisory committee for the “Is Fashion Modern?” exhibit at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) and is a frequent speaker at fashion-related conferences.
