Jessie J has dropped a visual for “Not My Ex,” a song and visual that reveal the London-born singer’s vulnerable side. Shot in black and white, the single camera, spare video feels like an intimate confessional with Jesse wearing minimal makeup and sporting still damp hair. Describing the video, Jesse wrote on Instagram, “I pressed record and was in the room by myself. No editing. One straight take.”
The song’s lyrics are a message to a current beau, letting him/her know she’s falling in love while at the same time, expressing fear/hope they’re not dragged down by prior relationships.
The song is from Jessie’s upcoming album R.O.S.E., an acronym for realizations, obsessions, sex, and empowerment. Slated to drop in 2018, R.O.S.E. is Jessie’s fourth album, one that speaks to her struggles to come back from a hiatus from music that included a relocation to Los Angeles.
