On its second-quarter earnings call, Nike brought on the VaporMax on 12 different occasions, hyping its strong demand as well as mentioning big plans for the shoe in 2018.
Part of the plans for the Vapormax include offering hybrid versions and already the sneakernets have dug up an advance images of a shoe that combines an Air Max Plus upper with a VaporMax bottom. Nike also plans to combine an Air Max 97 upper with a VaporMax bottom and while images of an actual shoe aren’t yet in circulation, there is an artist rendition (above) showing a metallic gold upper.
Hybrid shoes are highly controversial and are almost always shunned by sneaker purists. Still, as popular as the Air Max 97 is and as fresh as the Vapor Max sole is, this could be a combo that actually jumps off.
The Nike VaporMax 97 in metallic gold will release at nike.com and select Nike retailers on Air Max Day, May 1st, 2018.
