NikeLab And Riccardo Tisci Reunite For An NBA-Themed October Drop

October 9, 2017. Leave a Comment

Update: The NikeLab x RT Victorious Minotaurs collection launches October 12, 2017 in North America, October 20th in Paris and October 21st globally at NikeLab stores and nike.com/nikelab.

While Riccardo Tisci may no longer be designing for Givenchy, the Italian designer’s relationship with NikeLab continues with news surfacing of another collaborative apparel and sneaker capsule.

According to Tisci’s Instagram account, the collection is an NBA-related activation, reflecting Nike’s takeover of the league’s license starting with the fall 2017 season.

There are quite a few unconfirmed images floating around (so take the ones here with a small grain of salt), but it looks like the collection is underpinned by a white Air Force 1 Mid sneaker featuring a red Swoosh. There is also apparel for a team called the Minotaurs, which includes the Nike x RT logo Tisci revealed on his Instagram account.

The Minotaur makes sense because Tisci has said he’s long been obsessed with the mythological half man, half bull, and in fact, they inspired the nose rings he showed in his presentations in 2012.

The collaboration on an AF1 brings the Nike and Tisci collaborative relationship full circle because this is the model that kicked off their relationship back in March 2014. (‘Member how exciting it was when Rihanna was the first person spotted in a pair…oh the days!)

No official dates for the launch yet, but we are hearing either October 14th or 21st from our sources.

I’m honored to be part of this important moment as @Nike reclaims its partnership with the @NBA #NikeRT #NikeBasketball

Part of his debut collection with the retailer, the men's "giant fit" chino priced at 89.50 is 100% sold out! Relecting the popularity of the silhouette, the women's wide-leg pleated cargo is also sold out.

With wider fits and chino swinging back into popularity, we can't help but wonder what sneakers and shoes will be coming along for the ride. Any nominations?

The GOAT Serena Williams says farewell to her care The GOAT Serena Williams says farewell to her career as a professional tennis player in the September issue of American Vogue.

In the cover story, which is a must read, Williams shares some thoughts on her evolution away from tennis and says,"Believe me, I never wanted to have to choose between tennis and a family. I don’t think it’s fair. If I were a guy, I wouldn’t be writing this because I’d be out there playing and winning while my wife was doing the physical labor of expanding our family. Maybe I’d be more of a Tom Brady if I had that opportunity. Don’t get me wrong: I love being a woman, and I loved every second of being pregnant with Olympia. I was one of those annoying women who adored being pregnant and was working until the day I had to report to the hospital—although things got super complicated on the other side. And I almost did do the impossible: A lot of people don’t realize that I was two months pregnant when I won the Australian Open in 2017."

The cover editorial was styled by Gabriella Karefa-Johnson, who in 2020 became the first black woman to style a U.S. Vogue cover.

This cover was also one of the last projects hairstylist #LatishaChong worked on before she sadly passed away in July this year.

In 'Summer Renaissance' from Beyoncé's Renaissanc In 'Summer Renaissance' from Beyoncé's Renaissance album, the lyrics" This Telfar bag imported, Birkins, them shits in storage." Is creating a bit of a stir between the pro and anti Birkin dolls.

After The Cut published a story titled "Our Condolences To The Birkin" the internet got into their feelings.

Tiktoker tastechidera weighs in on the first video, then on the second clarifies her stance as not anti Telfar.

The last video is by stylist Ebony Brown ( TiKTok fashionablyfearless) who does not support owning a Birkin.
