Sacai and Undercover Show Collaborative Runway In Tokyo For Spring 2018

October 25, 2017. Leave a Comment

In a twist, Japanese brands Sacai and Undercover presented their spring 2018 collection on the say runway, a presentation that took place last week during Tokyo Fashion Week. It was Undercover’s first ever presentation in Tokyo in 15 years and Sacai’s first ever.

Both labels usually show in Paris and indeed, Undercover presented the same collection during Paris Fashion Week in September.

Sacai as designed by Chitose Abe presented first, followed by the Jun Takahashi-led Undercover, with each showing their distinctly different looks. Sacai’s pieces revealed Abe’s flair for building layered garments with a sport flair while the mischievously dramatic Takahashi sent out looks two at a time, inspired by the uber-spooky (yet fashionable!) twin ghosts featuring in The Shining. For adding duality, the looks were all reversible.

Notably, Tyler the Creator sat front row and Sarah Snyder opened Sacai’s presentation.

The show’s finale brought together both labels’ models, all wearing white lab coats printed with the words “what comes around goes around” over their runway looks.  The show ended with Abe and Takahashi taking their bows from either end of the runway.
