Nike And Kendrick Lamar’s Cortez Will Drop On The Night Of The Grammy’s

December 29, 2017. 2 Comments

Nike has changed the launch date to January 26th. The shoe will still be sold on its SNKRS app. Check out the final product here.

In mid-December rapper and Nike ambassador Kendrick Lamar posted on Instagram a red and white Nike Cortez sneaker customized with a lace detauk reading “don’t trip” plus Chinese characters along the shoe’s upper that translate to the word “damn,” a reference to the name of his widely praised album, which dropped in April 2017.

Subsequently, Nike confirmed it will drop a shoe with Lamar though it will be different than the one teased by Lamar. From what we can see, the shoe will feature a white leather upper and the word DAMN on the shoe’s tongue.

While quantities haven’t been confirmed, the silhouette will drop on  Sunday January 28th  at 7:30 PM EST, in sync with the Grammy Awards. The event is meaningful for Lamar because his album DAMN is nominated for seven awards, including album of the year.

Priced at $100, the shoes will be sold exclusively on Nike’s SNKRS app.

The GOAT Serena Williams says farewell to her care The GOAT Serena Williams says farewell to her career as a professional tennis player in the September issue of American Vogue.

In the cover story, which is a must read, Williams shares some thoughts on her evolution away from tennis and says,"Believe me, I never wanted to have to choose between tennis and a family. I don’t think it’s fair. If I were a guy, I wouldn’t be writing this because I’d be out there playing and winning while my wife was doing the physical labor of expanding our family. Maybe I’d be more of a Tom Brady if I had that opportunity. Don’t get me wrong: I love being a woman, and I loved every second of being pregnant with Olympia. I was one of those annoying women who adored being pregnant and was working until the day I had to report to the hospital—although things got super complicated on the other side. And I almost did do the impossible: A lot of people don’t realize that I was two months pregnant when I won the Australian Open in 2017."

The cover editorial was styled by Gabriella Karefa-Johnson, who in 2020 became the first black woman to style a U.S. Vogue cover.

This cover was also one of the last projects hairstylist #LatishaChong worked on before she sadly passed away in July this year.
