Los Angeles actress Lauren London is the latest to go sneaker shopping with Complex‘s Joe La Puma as part of the platform’s ongoing sneaker shopping series. Visiting Flight Club in Los Angeles, the native Los Angelean was able to speak to the iconic shoes that were popular growing up and still impact the culture.
As it turns out, London is the first female guest on the show since model Bella Hadid appeared on October 2, 2017. Given London’s authentic connection to sneaker culture, one has to assume this is Complex’s response to criticism for tapping Hadid, whose connection to sneakers is mainly driven by her contract with Nike.
London pointed out Nike Cortez and Converse Chuck Taylor as two silhouettes that have always been popular in Los Angeles. “I’m gonna always choose a Chuck over everything,” said London.
London even managed to fold in a reference to the endlessly-mocked sneaker shopping episode with Bella Hadid, cracking at one point, “It’s quiet for homeboy!” in reference to a boy in high school whose crush she didn’t return.
Discussing her love for Aaliyah, London said the r&b singer definitely should have had her own sneaker deal. “We’re late on everything that women are just now getting,” said London.
La Puma asked London about her appearance at the age of 17 in Pharrell Williams’ 2003 “Frontin” visual featuring Jay-Z. When asked if she could tell he would become a fashion icon, London said it didn’t surprise her at all.
She also addressed the rumors about an ATL part two, a film in which she played the role of Erin “New New” Garnett.
London had her mind and her money on Jordan brand for the segment, picking up a pair of Retro 1, 3 and 7 sneakers.
