Atlantic Records-artist Bruno Mars and Cardi B surprised everyone last night with news of a remixed version of “Finesse,” a single from Mars’ Grammy-Award-nominated 24k Magic album.
Leaning into all things ’90s, the single taps into the New Jack Swing sound with a visual that takes inspiration from the style of the same period, with both Cardi and Bruno wearing brightly-colored looks that bring to mind Cross Colours.
For the visual Cardi was styled by her go-to-guy, Kollin Carter, wearing a Jeremy Scott crop top paired with a Moschino leather jacket, denim shorts with some shine added on her wrist in the form of a gold Roli.
Both performers wore kicks by Reebok with Cardi sporting Reebok Classics and Mars in Court Victory Pumps.
The video was directed by Florent Dechard and Mars, who said the visual was inspired by “In Living Color,” and indeed, the backdrop for the video is a reproduction of the sketch comedy series’ set. Choreography and creative direction were handled by Phil Tayag, who tapped into the moves of the show’s famed Fly Girls.
Cardi has been on a roll as of last with her first three singles all charting in top ten placement on Billboard’s Hot 100 at the same time, a first for a rap artist. She’s also up for two Grammy nominations for “Bodak Yellow.”
