Toronto-based Nor Black Nor White as led by Mriga Kapadiya and Amrit Kumar have released a unisex velvet apparel capsule this winter perfect for the chilly weather we’re having on the East Coast.
Titled “Velvet Vixen,” over-sized jogging silhouettes gain unique flair through use of a Southeast Asian-rotted color and textile story, a look that has become the label’s signature.
While based in Toronto, Kapadiya and Kumar moved to India in 2009 to explore their roots and fell in love with the country’s rich textile heritage. Part of the label launch included a goal of affecting change on a social level.
To that effort, Nor Black Nor White recently partnered with Aqui Tham on a socially conscious art project titled “A Woman Was Harassed Here.” The effort is meant to challenge the norms around the sexual harassment of women on the streets of Bombay. In support of creating safe spaces for women, the designers created a capsule collection now available on norblacknorwhite.com.
