California-native H.E.R. (presumed to be Gabriella Wilson) has released a visual for “Focus,” a single from her album H.E.R. Volume 1, released in 2016. The visual stays true to the song’s theme, which is all about feeling disconnected from a lover.
Against a spare arrangement that includes the use of a harp, H.E.R. soulfully croons, “Lazy and broke? No, he get this money. So I guess I can’t complain. But I feel alone even when we’re alone. And that don’t cost a thing.”
And yes, this is the entrancing song that received quite a bit of play as a social media backing track last year after Rihanna (appearing very much in her best feelings) posted a slow motion video of herself with the song playing in the background.
