Bronx rapper Cardi B began the promotional push of her debut album, Invasion of Privacy, with an interview with Ebro Darden on his Apple Music Beats 1 program.
Wearing a pink turban with a silk Gucci pajama top and Christian Louboutin heels, Cardi discussed her rise to fame, artists who were featured on the article and her alleged beef with Nicki Minaj, which Cardi described as made up by the internet.
On why they didn’t appear on camera together in the “MotorSport” visual, Cardi said, “I heard she just couldn’t shoot that day,” adding, “What do people expect for me to do or say? I already said she’s an amazing artist. I already said I paid my respect to her. I did videos before jamming to her songs. What do people expect? Y’all want me to say something bad.”
Darden of course asked Cardi about rumors she is pregnant (and she clearly is) but rather than confirming she talked around the issue, stating, “I have been so open to people about myself. People cannot expect me to be open about everything. Certain things to me, it has to be private.” adding “You cannot invade my privacy. I’m not a damn animal at the zoo that you just could see everything, nooooo.”
She also discussed plans for an exclusive collaboration with Fashion Nova for fall 2018, her father’s parents unwillingness to move from the Bronx and her struggle to find supporters in the early days of her music career because of her accent and past as a stripper. “You just have to prove it to them and not have that grudge,” she noted. “You gotta continuously prove yourself. You gotta make them a believer.”
Cardi received the ultimate co-sign yesterday (April 6, 2018) when Oprah Winfrey shouted out the album on Instagram, writing, “Listening to that new Cardi B album.”
