New York-based performer Princess Nokia has provided a drop date of April 13, 2018 for her long-awaited mixtape, titled “A Girl Cried Red.” Nokia made the announcement today (April 9th) on social media. The news of the mixtape marked her return to Twitter, where her account has been down since late last year.
In an interview with Dazed in February 2018, Nokia described the music as reflective of the many musical genres she was exposed to as a youthful New Yorker. “It’s not just a little touch of [emo] or it blended into hip hop. It’s real alternative music.
“There’s no features, it’s just me. But I do have Elijah of Phony Ppl playing guitar on it, and I’ve got the wonderful producer Tony Seltzer who did all the production except for one song. We’re all New York City kids and metal heads so I just like to hang out with my friends and listen to our favorite bands and work together. It’s really lovely,” she explained.
She noted the mixtape title is taken from the 2006 single “The Robot with Human Hair” by California rock band Gavin Dance.
In between music projects, Nokia has been hosting a bi-weekly radio show called “The Voices in my Head.” Her most recent episode was on April 8th.
