SZA Weighs In On Patchy Coachella Performance

April 18, 2018. Leave a Comment

SZA received mixed reviews on her week one Coachella performance with some pointing out she was having trouble hitting note, in particular on the Black Panther single “All the Stars.”

Whether she saw the complaints or simply wasn’t happy with the performance herself, she took the time to weigh in on Instagram today, writing, “Last week kicked my ass . Every technical difficulty that could’ve went wrong did . Every ‘friend’ I asked to come out bailed on me . Lost my voice completely . Didn’t even get a chance to play the weekend . Couldn’t believe it was all happening on my biggest stage to date. I LOVE AND ACCEPT ALL CHALLENGES !! THANK U GOD FOR EVERY GROWTH OPPORTUNITY TO STEP INTO BIGGER DRAWS . I AM BIGGER THAN MY ADVERSITY . DOWN 9 TIMES BUT I GET UP 10!! This Friday is MINE.”

Putting aside the mysterious “friends” who bailed (who could say no to SZA??), during her performance SZA took a moment to tell her fans, “I was not allowed to smoke before this so I’m unusually sober,” perhaps and indication there were some vocal issues before she took to the stage.

Side note: we’ve seen SZA perform live and her vocals were wonderful and sounded as good or better than studio recordings so it seems like she truly had an off week. Now we just need Jay-Z to step up and explain his Coachella performance!
