During the Met Gala earlier this month, designer Virgil Abloh attended wearing a pair of baby blue Air Jordan 1 and Off-White sneakers he labeled “For Red Carpet Only.”
As it turns out, his personal pair was made for the red carpet, but behind the scenes, many more pairs were being made of the colorway for public consumption.
The shoe features a white leather upper with a baby blue overlay, a color referencing the school colors of UNC aka the University of North Carolina, where Michael Jordan first began to make his name as a basketball player. Of course the shoe also features the deconstructed and industrial details that have become a signature for the Off-White label.
According to sneakerbardetroit.com Nike did an unannounced release of the shoe today (May 23, 2018) on its SNKRS app, but the official global drop date for this shoe is May 30, 2018, followed by a U.S. launch on June 9th.
