Met Gala’s 2018 event is titled “Heavenly Bodies,” a theme examining the intersection of the Catholic church and fashion. The exquisite gown shown here is Dior haute coutre 2005/2006 and it was designed by John Galliano, who himself was raised in a strict Catholic household.
This is a theme that is very much in the wheelhouse of European design houses because it is of their DNA and as such, they understand it and are less likely to make clumsy statements or conversely, feel hemmed in by the fear they might make offend.
For this year’s gala, red carpet arrivals at the Metropolitan Museum of Art begin at 6:30 PM EST. The event will be hosted by Amal Clooney, Rihanna, Donatella Versace and Anna Wintour.

Noteworthy individuals who are not attending: Beyoncé, Kate Blanchett, Lady Gaga, Kristen Stewart and Kanye West.
Allegedly, Beyoncé had planned to attend wearing a Dundas gown, but opted out at the least minute to go on vacation instead. The idea was spurred by her husband, Jay-Z, who thought it would be better for her to take time off before the start of their “On the Run II” tour, which kicks off on June 6, 2018, in Cardiff, England. Naturally, the change in plans has the mostly anti-Jay Beyhive once again irritated with him.
