Metropolitan Museum of Art has tapped global makeup force Pat McGrath to create a capsule paying homage to the “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination” exhibit.
In an email exchange, McGrath told WWD, “I feel incredibly close to this year’s show; many of the extraordinary pieces featured are from shows and campaigns I worked on so to me, it represents some of the most beloved, groundbreaking moments throughout my career as a makeup artist. For the Metropolitan Museum of Art to include makeup and makeup artistry alongside some of the greatest masterworks of Western art is truly exceptional.”
Launched by McGrath three years ago, the line now includes a full range of lipsticks, lip liners, eyeliners, mascara and eyeshadow. In March 2018, McGrath announced a lip gloss line extension, an effort she will kick off with the launch of a pearl pink gloss shade called “Aliengelic” at The Met on May 8th. Priced at $28, the gloss will be followed by a launch of the full line on patmcgrath.com.
Museum offerings also include Mothership IV: Decadence, an eyeshadow palette priced at $125. Packaging for both items reference the religious motifs featured in the exhibit.
In addition to the gloss and eye shadow, the collection will also include a t-shirt ($62)and long-sleeve t-shirt ($82).
Pat McGrath’s “Heavenly Bodies” offerings will be sold at Met exhibition store and also at The Met Cloisters locations. They will not be available to buy online.
