Vancouver-based KSLAM as designed by Casey Lamb got some great shine this week when singer Tinashe wore the label’s astrology set for a Power 106 concert in Los Angeles. Perfectly hugging Tinashe’s lithe curves, the sexy two-piece denim set is detailed with metal grommets.
In an email exchange with Snobette, Lamb shared the inspiration behind the coordinated set. Lamb wrote, “I was working on an outdoor night time photoshoot concept and wanted to create a piece that would reflect the light around the model, while also picking up the color of the neon street lights. I named it the astrology set because of the little dipper I created on the knee of it, and because of the grommets placement, which kind of mimics the stars and galaxies at night.”
As to what inspired her to start a label rooted in denim two years ago, Lamb explained, “The message behind my denim came first from the feminist perspective I had started to engage in through my early years of university. Now, at 21, I really try to focus my brand around concepts of diversity and the empowerment of women.
“Being plus size myself, I think its important to include people of all sizes, along with those of color, and different sexualities and genders. Creating a brand that is fluid, while also allowing people to feel confident and sexy in my clothing is something that continues to be important to me as a designer. I focus on custom and made to fit clothing because, I really want the person wearing it to know and feel like it was made for them. Although I have mainly focused on womenwear, I hope my new collection coming out this fall can reach a more diverse audience.”
The astrology set is priced at $400 and is available in light, medium and dark denim. It’s now available at kslamclothing.com.
