Azealia Banks had a very productive day today (July 5, 2018). She closed out the day by dropping “Treasure Island,” a single to be included on her upcoming mixtape, “Fantasea II: The Second Wave.”
Before releasing the single, Banks took the time to go in on Nicki Minaj for the mermaid-themed art direction of her upcoming “Bed” video. In a series of tweets, Banks accused Minaj of mermaid appropriation, pointing out she’s long used the mythical creature for her Fantasea-related projects.
While Banks’ ongoing criticisms of Minaj had created a frosty relationship between the two, there was a brief detente after Minaj complimented Banks’ talent in an April 2018 interview.
For about five minutes after the interview there was chatter that Minaj might be open to a collaboration. However, when it became clear that wasn’t on the table, the door cracked opened for Banks to go in on Minaj if she felt so inclined.
Give “Treasure Island” a listen below.
“Why does Nicki have to be so corny?”
