Air Jordan announced plans today for a two shoe collaboration with Vogue and Anna Wintour, a bit of an odd ball choice because her signature style is pretty much the opposite of casual. In a campaign video, Jordan plays off on the style mismatch by showing her as a hoops whiz behind closed doors.
The two shoe capsule includes the Jordan 1 High Zip AWOK offered in either white or red leather with a lacing system has been replaced by a key-ring zipper. The second silhouette is a Jordan 3 AWOK featuring a maroon or black tweed upper, a material story inspired by Wintour’s love of Chanel tweed suits.
Both silhouettes are stamped with the letters AWOK (Anna Wintour OK), the signature Wintour uses to sign off on magazine images and stories.
While the pairing of Jordan and Wintour may be an oddball choice, one of the brand’s stated goals this year has been growing its women’s sales so it makes sense it would attempt to connect with female customers through innovative messaging.
The Jordan 1 High Zip AWOK will drop on July 21, 2018 at Hirshleifers, Kith, Nordstrom x Nike and North America Jumpman Doors (306 Yonge in Toronto and 32 South State in Chicago). The Jordan 3 AWOK will launch on September 7th. No details yet on pricing.
