Vans has announced plans for a partnership with Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam on a capsule featuring graphics inspired by artist Vincent Van Gogh’s most iconic works.
Shoes and apparel will feature graphics pulled from his “Sunflowers,” “Almond Blossom,” “Skull” and self portrait paintings as combined with Vans motifs. Offerings also include graphics pulled from “Old Vineyard with Peasant Woman,” as combined with photoscreens of handwritten notes from Van Gogh to his brother, Theo.
In addition to hoodies and long-sleeve t-shirts, art will be featured on Vans’ Authentic, Old Skool and Classic Slip-On silhouettes. Each piece from the collection will also include a hangtag providing background on the art featured on the shoe.
“We are delighted with the Vans x Van Gogh Museum collection, as it ties in with our mission to make the life and work of Vincent van Gogh accessible to as many people as possible in order to enrich and inspire them”, said Adriaan Dönszelmann, managing director of the Van Gogh Museum. “By uniting Van Gogh’s iconic artworks with iconic Vans styles, our partnership brings Vincent’s art ‘Off The Wall’ and into the world to a new audience outside the museum.”
The Van Gogh Museum will dedicate a portion of its profits from this project to the preservation of Vincent van Gogh’s legacy and collection of art; keeping it accessible for future generations.
The Vans x Van Gogh Museum Collection will be available to shop at select retail accounts, Vans stores and vans.com/vangogh on August 3, 2018. The collection will also be sold at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam and vangoghmuseumshop.com.
