Copenhagen-based designer Willy Chavarria presented his spring 2019 menswear collection last night (July 9, 2018) during New York Men’s Fashion week, once again revealing his talent for infused tailored looks with the energy of streetwear.
Much to our delight, the collection included a tribute to California congresswoman Maxine Waters with a t-shirt featuring a portrait of Waters with the word “fighter” printed over her head.
The collection also included the debut of Chavarria’s collaborative soccer collection with Hummel International, a Denmark-based sporting goods company.
“We’re sponsoring a soccer organization for immigrant guys, asylum seekers and refugees,” Chavarria explained to Vogue. “They’ll wear it first, and then deliveries will happen in six months.”
He further expressed a goal of accessibility with plans to create tiered offerings, “things that can be sold at Barneys and Foot Locker.”
