Houston-native Lay Lay (née Aleyah High) has signed a record deal with Atlanta’s Empire Records. At 11-years-old, she’s the youngest rapper to sign to a major label. Prior to Lay Lay, the youngest to sign to a deal were rap duo Kriss Kross, whose members were 13 and 14 respectively when they signed to Ruffhouse Records.
Lay Lay made the announcement yesterday (August 2, 2018) on her Instagram account, which her parents make a point of noting they manage. At the moment, the talented 11-year old is working on her debut album, titled Go Lay Lay Go.
“It’s official!!! I am the YOUNGEST FEMALE RAP ARTIST to sign a record deal😱😩😝 I would like to thank my fans @empire @queenalphashawn @buttamurphy @djcone and my DAD for making this possible. Look out for my first single “Go Lay Lay Go” ALBUM ON THE WAY!!!” her parents wrote.
