Cardi B continues to celebrate her Caribbean heritage with a feature on Dominican artist El Elfa’s song “Mi Mami,” a single that was released today (November 2, 2018) with a stylish video.
On the track, Cardi takes a more laid back approach to bars that include mostly Spanish lyrics like “Yo quiero senti el mejor, En mi cama haciéndome el amor right now.”
While fans were disappointed the two artists bypassed the denbow sound Elfa is known for, Cari explained on live that she wanted a track that open Elfa up to a wider audience.
“I know that when dembow goes mainstream, it’s going to change everything,” Cardi explained on Instagram live. “It’s like, okay let’s play the game they play and make reggaeton/trap and then we’ll hit them with dembow. I knew that people wanted a dembow with me and El Alfa. But [we decided to make] a song that’d take off and then when people find out, that’s when we’ll give them a dembow.”
