Gucci and Comme des Garçons have turned heads with the reveal of a collaborative shopping bag, part of a capsule of holiday items carried exclusively by Dover Street Market. The bag makes use of a popular Comme des Garçon bag silhouette that’s stamped with a silver-version of the label name overlaid with Gucci’s trademark red and green stripe. Made in Japan, the bag is constructed of a brown paper bag coated with a plastic shell.
While luxury labels don’t commonly collaborate with each other, Comme des Garçons is a noteworthy exception to the rule in part because the efforts are organized through the Dover Street Market platform, which is owned by Kawakubu and her husband, Adrien Joffe.
Prior to the bag, Comme des Garçons and Gucci partnered on a set of silk scarves for the holiday 2015 capsule.
Dover Street Market’s holiday offerings also include items made in collaboration with Burberry’s Riccardo Tisci, John Galliano, Jean Paul Gaultier, Simone Rocha, Craig Green, Marine Serre, Walter Van Beirendonck and Stüssy.
Dover Street Market Ginza sold the shopping bag in limited quantities on November 23, 2018, and it will launch at additional Dover Street Market stores on December 6th. If it follows the same pattern as the Gucci scarves, it should also be carried at some Gucci stores as well.
