In a Snobette exclusive, Detroit born and Atlanta-based singer/songwriter Janine The Machine drops “Oracle,” a sultry four song EP conveying a soul vibe against trap beats. Grouping her songs by lyrical and sonic themes, Janine has plans to release additional sound-themed-EPs over the next few months.
In an email exchange Janine shared her thoughts with us on the project. Check it out below.
Snobette: What is the inspiration for the title of “Oracle?”
Janine: “I was in my living room watching my favorite movie, The Matrix. I was at the part where Neo is going to see the Oracle. I got a phone call from a random number so l paused the movie. I looked at the time and it was 11:11. I answered, but no one was there. I was like, ‘Oh, that’s the fucking title!’ For the next few weeks, I was seeing the word oracle everywhere: random books, an ad at the airport, Drake’s Instagram. It was the weirdest thing.”
Snobette: What do you want to communicate with this EP?
Janine: “Oracle is all about manifestation. We’re so fucking powerful and I feel like we forget that sometimes. Speak light over your life, drink your water, sip your tea, dump that trashy boyfriend, meditate, chase your dreams. Life is way too short for bad vibes.”
Snobette: The overall vibe is very cool and mellow.
Janine: “Music is therapy for me so I write almost every single day. All those songs don’t always fit into a cohesive project so I decided to make themed EPs. ‘Oracle’ is the first. I wrote everything and co-executive produced it with my good friend, Gazzo. There’s also input from Yonni and Illmind. They’re all insanely talented.”
Enjoy Oracle below, and stay tuned for an upcoming visual for “Reiki.” In the meantime, check out Janine’s visual for “High Places” featuring Raja Kumari.
