Brooklyn rapper Leikeli47 has dropped her debut album, Acrylic, a 19-song project that includes “Girl Blunt,” which made its debut on “Insecure” season three, episode five (the Coachella one).
Leikeli47’s talent has been her ability to stay rooted and true to beat and lyrical traditions of Brooklyn hip hop, while at the same time artfully elevating the sound with unexpected beats and lyrics telling the tale of life in the borough as seen through the eyes of a deeply-creative black woman.
On “Top Down,” “Hoyt and Schermerhorn” (a train station in Brooklyn), “CIAA” and “In My Eyes” we’re delighted to hear Leikeli47 blend soulful singing and spitting.
Listen out for the brashy “Full Set (A New Style),” a song whose title references MC Debra aka Selvin Mizrahi, who’s also sampled in the song.
Acrylic is now available to stream on all channels. Check it out on Spotify below.
