Nike and Fear of God today (November 12, 2018) officially announced their first collaborative collection, a basketball-themed capsule that includes clothing and a performance basketball shoe called the Nike Air Fear of God 1.
In addition to the shoe, the collection includes Tech Fleece and nylon tops, joggers and shorts, all of which are cut for an over-sized, baggy fit. While one could fairly argue the collection is unisex, all told it has a very built-for-the-bros feel to it.
According to press, FOG designer Jerry Lorenzo wanted to tap into the power of sport to shape design choices. Said Lorenzo, “In my youth, growing up in the ’80s and finishing high school in the ’90s, contrary to what’s happening now, it was our superstar athletes and our pro athletes that were informing the way that we wore our street clothes. These athletes, like Agassi and Jordan, were at the top of their game and what they wore didn’t compromise on design or beauty.”
Lorenzo teamed with Nike senior footwear designer Leo Chang to create the collection. Commenting on the shoe, Chang noted it externally references Nike’s Air Max 180, but internally it includes a double stack Zoom heel. “The sensation is incredible. It’s super bouncy,” explained Chang. “From the metatarsal heads back, it is our performance basketball last.”
The Nike Air Fear of God 1 is priced at $395 (style code: AR4237-001) and will launch on December 15, 2018 on nike.com and select Nike wholesale accounts.
