Former president Barack Obama today (December 28, 2018) continuing what has become a tradition with the announcement of his favorite songs, movies and books in 2018.
Among his eclectic list of 22 songs, female artists include Beyoncé (as part of The Carters), H.E.R., Poppy Ajudha, Brandi Carlile, Ashley McBride, Tali Rubinstein, Cardi B, Normani, Janelle Monáe, Courtney Barnett, Mavis Staples and Fatoumata Diawara. He also shouted out Nancy Wilson, who passed away earlier this month, and described her as “one of the great jazz singers of all time.”
On Instagram, Obama wrote, “As 2018 draws to a close, I’m continuing a favorite tradition of mine and sharing my year-end lists. It gives me a moment to pause and reflect on the year through the books, movies, and music that I found most thought-provoking, inspiring, or just plain loved. It also gives me a chance to highlight talented authors, artists, and storytellers – some who are household names and others who you may not have heard of before.
