Missy Elliott has been announced a an inductee for the Songwriters Hall of Fame’s class of 2019. Additional nominees include John Prine, Cat Stevens, Dallas Austin, Tom T. Hall and Jack Tempchin.
While the Songwriters Hall of Fame includes other women, Elliott is the first female hip hop artist to be inducted and only the third rapper since the organization was founded in 1969 by songwriter Johnny Mercer, music publisher/songwriter Abe Olman and publisher/executive Howie Richmond.
On Instagram, a thrilled Missy wrote, “I want to CONGRATULATE all the AMAZING songwriters who have been inducted into the 2019 “Song Writers Hall of Fame🙌🏾🙌🏾 also those who were nominated because their body of work is AMAZING🙌🏾 I AM SO HUMBLY GRATEFUL & crying tears of Joy to now be inducted also thank you God🙏🏾 and I love all of you so much!
